Portland, OR based artist, Anneli Anderson – StudioAnneli.com, is a contemporary semi-abstract painter creating her work out of her Happy Valley studio. A native of the grand state of Alaska, her love of nature and the play of light and color culminate in her paintings exploring the dynamics of the natural world. 

Starting out, in her teens, at a wearable art studio assisting with screen printing and hand painting clothing she saw first hand how a life with art was possible. Her fascination with shapes and the layering of light was later sparked when she was fortunate to spend a year in Spain studying printmaking. This opened the doors to imagine life as a visual artist and the commitment to art making as a lifelong practice and visual language. Her further studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR led to a career as a freelance graphic designer all the while exploring painting and many other forms of artmaking.

She enjoys the quick drying process of acryic painting and the ease in which one can build up layers of paint. In the last five years she has enjoyed taking online painting classes from artists such as Nancy Hillis, Linda Kemp, Nicolas Wilton, and Nathan Fowkes learning how better to use color, the process of creating a composition with negative shapes, and the importance of exploration and play in her creative journey. In a world with so much chaos and desparate disunity, she hopes her artwork conveys the peaceful clarity that happens when light illuminates shapes in darkness and creates rest for the eye in beautiful composition.
